Hawker Hurricane is a British fighter aircraft, single-seater, single-engine low-wing metal structure with partially canvas cover, designed and manufactured by Hawker Aircraft. Used on many fronts of World War II, it played a significant role during the Battle of Britain. Manufactured in many versions of armament and with different power units. By the end of production in 1944, more than 14 thousand copies of all land versions of Hurricane and Sea Hurricane were produced, adapted to operate from aircraft carriers.

303 Warsaw Fighter Squadron Tadeusz Kosciuszko (303 dm) – fighter air squadron of the Polish Air Force in Great Britain.

Squadron 303 is one of the best fighter units of World War II. During the Battle of Britain in 1940, he was credited with 126 certain shootings officially completed during the war, which put him in the first place among the fighter squadrons participating in the battle. After the war, however, it turned out that the sum of victories scored by Allied pilots is approx. One and a half times higher than the actual German losses (overstated for various reasons, reports of fighter units were the rule in virtually all conflicts). Undoubtedly, the result of 126 shootings of Squadron 303 is significantly overstated, but nevertheless it was one of the best Allied squadrons. Polish historian Jacek Kutzner considered 59,8 shootings to be confirmed, which still gives Squadron 303 the first place among all air squadrons participating in the Battle of Britain. British historian John Alcorn, on the other hand, considered 44 victories to be certainly confirmed, which puts the squadron in fourth place among the squadrons of the Battle of Britain (after squadrons 603 – 57,8 victories, 609 – 48 and 41 – 45,33 victories, but they all flew on more modern Supermarine Spitfires[5]). The 303 Squadron was the best squadron of the Hawker Hurricane flying on older fighters. Given that these victories were achieved during the 17 days of fighting, he was also the most effective Allied squadron (2,6 victories per day), with a high win-loss ratio of 2,8:1.
