Smoke sensor Sone Smart One JKD-517W warns household members about smoke detection with loud alarm ≥85 dB from a distance of 3 m and flashing red LED. With notifications in the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app, you can learn about the threat even when you are away from home.

Our sensor meets the requirements of EN 14604:2005/AC:2008 for domestic smoke detectors. It includes requirements and research related to m.in. with smoke detection and sound alarm operation.

The device connects directly to 2,4 GHz Wi-Fi — no additional gateway required. Battery powered allows installation without wires, and smoke detection and local alarm also work without Wi-Fi and internet.

Certificate confirming the operation of the sensor

The Sone JKD-517W sensor is covered by the Certificate of constancy of performance No. 2531-CPR-CSP11345, confirming the assessment in accordance with EN 14604:2005/AC:2008 for domestic smoke detectors.

What does this mean for you? The device has passed the required tests for m.in. smoke detection and sound alarm operation. So you choose a sensor whose properties have been evaluated by an independent certification body.

Why is it worth choosing this model?

  • Loud alarm and LED signal – when smoke is detected, the sensor triggers a signal of ≥85 dB from a distance of 3 m and a flashing red LED, warning household members of the threat.
  • Notifications even outside the home – thanks to the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app, you can receive information about smoke detection on your phone.
  • Compliance with the EN 14604:2005/AC:2008 standard – meeting the requirements for domestic smoke detectors, m.in : smoke detection and alarm operation.
  • Operation without internet – smoke detection and local alarm remain active after Wi-Fi loss , when powered by working batteries.
  • Simple installation without cables – powered by 2 × AA 1.5 V and connected to the router via 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, without an additional gateway. Batteries are not included in the set.
  • Convenient testing and muting – a button on the housing allows you to check the device's operation . The alarm can also be silenced using the Mute function in the app after making sure there is no fire risk.
  • Polish manufacturer Sone Smart One – in the packaging you will find a Polish user manual that will help with assembly and configuration.

The sensor detects smoke - it does not detect carbon monoxide, gas or flames. Phone notifications require internet access and appropriate application settings.

Dimensions and correct installation

The sensor has dimensions of about Ø120 × 36 mm. It is mounted on a mounting bracket on the ceiling or wall. Battery powered allows installation without wires.

It is best to place the sensor on the ceiling, at least 10 cm from the wall. When mounted on the wall, its upper edge should be 10 to 30,5 cm below the ceiling. Recommended places are bedrooms, corridors near them and every floor of the house.

Do not install the appliance in the kitchen, bathroom or garage — cooking fumes, steam and exhaust gases can trigger unwanted alarms. Avoid corners, dusty and obscured areas, and the immediate vicinity of windows, fans, and vents.

Home alarm and phone notifications

When the sensor detects smoke, it triggers a ≥85 dB audible alarm (at 3m) and a flashing red LED. The warning works locally — even during power outages or loss of internet connection, as long as the batteries are working.

Once connected to Tuya Smart or Smart Life, you will also receive a push notification on your phone. This allows you to be alerted to smoke even when you are away from home. No complex automation setup is required — simply enable smoke detection notifications in the sensor settings and grant the app permission to display them.

Notifications require an internet connection. They supplement the local audible alarm, which remains the primary warning for household members.

Event history and sensor status control

In the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app, you can check the status of your device and review saved events. The Record (Event History) section shows messages with date and time, so you can see when they were reported.

In the Set (settings) tab you will find battery level, information about a possible fault and the result of self-test, described as Auto-Detect Result.

The Alarm Set (notification settings) section allows you to select messages sent to your phone: about smoke alarm, low battery fault and sensor fault (Device sensor fault). You can also enable information about the start and end of the self-test — Device self-test begins and Device self-check completed.

Automation with other devices

Smoke detection can trigger additional actions in your home. In the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app, link the sensor with compatible devices to set up a scene, such as turning on the lights when an alarm is triggered.

In the Smart (scenes and automation) section, select the condition "Smoke Detection Status → Smoke Alarm", then choose the action to perform, such as activating a smart light switch.

Automations require additional compatible devices and an internet connection. The sensor's local audible alarm functions independently of any configured scenes.

Testing and silencing the alarm

The TEST/MUTE button on the housing allows you to check the operation of the sound alarm and LED. Perform the test after assembly, after replacing the battery and at least once a week.

If you know the cause of the smoke and make sure there is no fire, you can mute the alarm for about 10 minutes. Just press the button on the sensor or select Mute in the app. The application requires an Internet connection.

After about 10 minutes, the device will automatically return to normal operation. If the smoke is still present, the alarm will restart.

Power supply and replaceable batteries

The sensor operates on two AA 1,5 V alkaline batteries (LR6), therefore it does not require connection to the electrical system. With efficient batteries, detects smoke and triggers a local alarm also during a power outage.

Good quality batteries can provide up to 3 years of operation under normal conditions of use. The actual time depends on m.in. from battery quality, ambient conditions, Wi-Fi connection and alarm frequency.

The need to replace the battery is reminded by the short beep and the flashing of the red LED every 40 seconds or so. You can also check their level in the application, where you can enable low power notification.

Batteries are not included. The service life of the sensor itself is 10 years from the date of manufacture — the replacement date for this batch is September 2036. During this time, the batteries should be replaced as they are used.

Adding the sensor to the app

You can connect the sensor to Tuya Smart or Smart Life without an additional hub. Have your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network name and password ready.

  1. Insert two AA 1.5V alkaline batteries into the sensor, ensuring correct polarity.
  2. Connect your phone to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and turn on Bluetooth. Grant the app permission to access necessary phone functions, including nearby devices.
  3. Press and hold the TEST/MUTE button for about 15 seconds until the green LED starts flashing rapidly. The sensor will emit an alarm sound while you hold the button — this is normal. Do not release the button until pairing mode is activated.
  4. Open the app, tap "+" → "Add Device" and start automatic scanning.
  5. Select the detected sensor, enter your Wi-Fi network details, and follow the on-screen instructions.
  6. Once configuration is complete, name the device and assign it to a room.

The sensor does not support 5 GHz Wi-Fi. After adding the device, enable smoke detection notifications in the device settings and allow the app to display them on your phone.
