31 Tactical Aviation Base in Poznań-Krzesiny is one of two military airports where F-16 C/D Block 52+ "Hawk" aircraft are stationed on a daily basis. Some of the machines from the 32nd Tactical Aviation Base in Łask near Łódź were also transferred here, which is currently being modernized. Both units belong to the 2nd Tactical Aviation Wing.

The F-16s are the backbone of the Polish Air Force’s combat aviation and are designed to perform tasks as part of the fight for air superiority, to support other types of armed forces and to conduct reconnaissance. Tactical air squadrons are equipped with F-16 Hawk aircraft and as soon as they reach combat readiness, they will be fully compatible with allied air units. This facilitates cooperation and also makes it easier to accept, if necessary, allied reinforcement forces.

All squadrons of tactical aviation, after checking conducted according to NATO procedures, by the Operational Command of the Armed Forces, received a certificate to operate under the NATINADS allied air defense system. In September 2011, a separate component of 31. Tactical Aviation Base consisting of four F-16 Hawk aircraft, eight pilots and the necessary security elements, passed the TACEVAL tactical test, conducted by twenty inspectors from different NATO countries and obtained a certificate for the expeditionary activities of the alliance as part of the combat operations of the combined forces.
