In the 50s. On the chimney of the Sanok AUTOSAN Bus Factory, storks nested on the chimney. For the developing plant, Zdzisław Beksiński – a descendant of the founder of the factory, and at the same time an artist: painter, sculptor, illustrator and architect – designed the logotype of the factory with a stylized image of a stork.

In the 60s. The factory in Sanok was the largest Polish bus manufacturer, producing m.in. San buses. The H100 version was a direct ancestor of the new vehicle, which was to replace the outdated model already in the middle of the decade. The new vehicle was to be a medium-capacity bus. The engine was decided to move to the rear, freeing up space in front. Project work began in two directions: one project was carried out in cooperation with a Yugoslav company and was called Sanos A9, the other was developed at the Sanok Bus Factory and marked as Sanok 09.

Both structures were similar. They are based on a steel frame on which the body is placed. The door was moved in front of the front and behind the rear axle, and between them there was a place for luggage hatches accessible from the outside of the vehicle. After testing, the Polish version was chosen and in 1974 the production of the bus named Autosan H9 began.

These buses offered greater comfort of travel: they were equipped with aircraft seats, they were characterized by better soundproofing of the interior, and – optionally – they were equipped with air conditioning. They were produced in local, intercity and tourist versions (H9-20/21) and urban versions (H9-33/35). They gained popularity thanks to the simplicity of construction and operation, durability and resistance to the quality of Polish roads. They were most often used by bus companies, Wojsko Polish and as school buses. Special versions were also created, including sanitary, bus-shop, laboratory and even intended for film crews. It was produced until 2006.
