SIGMA 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary offers a focal range of 27-75 mm (equivalent to 35 mm format) and a fixed, bright aperture of F2.8 throughout the range. Thanks to this, the lens provides a beautiful background blur, ideal for portrait and macro photos. Creamy bokeh allows you to focus your attention on the subject being photographed, giving your photos a unique aesthetic.

The combination of compact dimensions, light weight and excellent image quality was achieved thanks to advanced optical technology developed at the SIGMA factory in Aizu – the place where all the brand’s lenses have been produced for over 60 years.

The design includes three aspherical lenses that provide excellent sharpness and reduce lens weight. Thanks to the built-in correction of chromatic aberrations, vignetting and distortion, the photos are precise and clear.

Compact and lightweight design

The lens weighs just 290 g, has a length of 74,5 mm and a diameter of 65,4 mm, making it the smallest and lightest in its class*. It works perfectly with APS-C mirrorless cameras without limiting their mobility. The thermally stable composite (TSC) construction ensures durability and resistance to changing temperatures, which works well in both hot and low temperatures.

Thanks to its weight and size, the lens is perfect for working on a gimbal, vlogging or everyday photography. In combination with the SIGMA fp in APS-C mode, the whole set weighs only 712 g.

Versatility and functionality

The stepper motor in the lens guarantees fast, precise and almost silent autofocus, ideal for photos in quiet environments, recording videos and photos of dynamic scenes. The face and eye detection feature makes it easy to work with portrait and reporter photos.

An additional advantage is the MACRO function, which allows you to record details with a minimum focusing distance of 20 cm and a mapping scale of 1:2.8*. It is a great solution for lovers of details in nature or product photography.

Flare reduction and high image quality

Super Multi-Layer Coatings eliminate glare and flares, allowing you to get sharp, high-contrast photos even when highlighted. In addition, Nano Porous Coating (NPC) technology, based on porous silica, reduces light reflections, improving image quality when shooting against light.

The optical design includes 13 elements in 10 groups, including one SLD (low dispersion) lens that minimizes chromatic aberrations. The rounded, 7-leaf aperture guarantees smooth tonal transitions and an attractive bokeh effect.

Complementing the image quality is a 7-leaf, rounded aperture, thanks to which we get a pleasant image plasticity that generates smooth gradation and minimizes the formation of streaks.

Reduction of flares and scars

Already in the early stages of the lens design process, flares and blocks are measured to test the resistance of the optical mechanism to strong light sources. The new Super Multi-Layer Coating from SIGMA helps reduce flare and distortion and provides sharp, high-contrast images, even in underwater conditions.

Comfort of use

The unique lens coating technology called “NPC (Nano Porous Coating)” contains porous silica as a coating material. The porous silica layer has nanometer holes with air inside. Holes of this size allow a significant reduction in the refractive index, which allows you to reduce the reflectivity more than in conventional anti-reflective coatings. As a result, the amount of reflected light causing flares and so-called reflected was significantly reduced. sprites, which in turn allowed to obtain high contrast when shooting against the light.
