Ricoh GR IIIx

Ricoh GR IIIx was developed in response to user suggestions for an introduction to the model line that will add a new perspective, different from the highly valued RICOH GR III - equipped with a 28mm wide-angle lens. The newly designed GR 26,1 mm lens provides a 40 mm viewing angle equivalent to 35 mm. The versatile viewing angle allows you to create a completely different visual expression of the scenes being photographed. The camera also provides a number of new and improved editing features when you take a photo.

The new RICOH GR IIIx is a camera that harmonizes all the advantages of the ever-expanding RICOH GR series with a new, innovative perspective ideal for dynamic, inspiring street photography.

Newly designed high-resolution GR lens

The Ricoh GR IIIx is equipped with the newly developed 26,1 mm F2,8 GR lens, which combines exceptional image quality with a slim design. Unlike previous models in the GR series, which offered a wide viewing angle of 28 mm, this lens provides a standard 40 mm angle equivalent to the 35 mm format, delivering images with a more natural perspective and a more realistic sense of depth for a completely different dimension of street photography. The newly designed optical design incorporates two aspherical elements placed in the most effective positions to reduce distortion and chromatic aberration to a minimum, while effectively minimizing the occurrence of flares and ghosts when shooting against light. It also comes with an ND (Neutral Density) filter to capture high-contrast and resolution images in a variety of shooting conditions. The nine-blade aperture mechanism allows for a natural bokeh effect and a true sense of depth.

High-quality, high-resolution images

The GR IIIx is equipped with an APS-C CMOS image sensor with an effective resolution of approximately 24,24 megapixels, with an anti-aliasing filter (AA)-free design and a newly developed GR ENGINE 6 imaging engine to optimize image resolving power. The camera also features a RICOH accelerator unit, which provides excellent color reproduction and detailed shots across the ISO range.

Hybrid AF system

The GR IIIx is equipped with a hybrid AF system that combines a high-precision contrast detection mechanism with a phase detection mechanism for fast focusing. The AF system is equipped with a face or eye detection function. When the camera detects multiple faces, it automatically distinguishes the main object from the others and indicates this on the focus frame. The photographer can change the main object using the touch screen.

Effective mechanism SR RICOH

• Three-axis, four-stage* shock reduction: RICOH’s original SR (Shake Reduction) mechanism means that GR IIIx effectively compensates for camera shake when the shutter is triggered. The three-axis mechanism minimizes the adverse effects of camera vibrations caused by tilting and rotating with the effectiveness of four exposure steps. As the SR mechanism moves the image sensor to the ideal horizontal and vertical position, the camera allows the user to use the horizon autocorrection function to effortlessly optimize the image composition.

• Original AA filter simulator RICOH*: Using the microscopic vibrations of the image sensor, the camera's AA filter simulator (anti-aliasing) provides the same level of mora reduction as the optical AA filter. The simulator allows the user not only to turn on and off the AA filter effect, but also to adjust the effect to the object.

* This feature is available with shutter speeds longer than 1/1000th of a second.

Compact, lightweight design

The GR IIIx is designed according to the GR series camera concept, which is designed to be compact and functional. It also provides a range of user-friendly features - such as a short start-up time of about 0,8 seconds, control knobs conveniently located next to the four-way controller and the ability to operate via touch screen - to increase functionality and allow the user to react quickly. The outer casing is made of magnesium alloy, ensures reliability and durability when moving or storing.

High Resolution LCD Monitor

The GR IIIx is equipped with a 3,0-inch high-resolution LCD monitor with approximately 1 037 000 points. Touch screen operation provides fast, intuitive control of various camera functions such as AF frame offset, menu selection and image panning/enlarging during playback. The Air-gap-less design, in which the space between the LCD touch monitor and the protective cover made of reinforced glass is filled with a special resin, effectively reduces reflections and light dispersion improving visibility. External View setting allows the user to adjust the brightness of the monitor to the desired level for better visibility in difficult lighting conditions

Advanced image editing

GR IIIx allows you to process RAW images on your camera and save them as a JPEG file. A number of parameters can be adjusted, including proportions and white balance. At the same time, the camera’s image quality adjustment function for JPEG files has been improved: the newly added monochrome mode allows for more meticulous adjustment of parameters in full-color images such as filter effect, toning, contrast and sharpness. The camera also provides creative tools such as selecting a aspect ratio (16:9 or 4:3)* and rotating the image in 0,1-degree increments* to facilitate the image editing process.

Wireless Bluetooth and WLAN communication

Thanks to wireless LAN (WLAN) communication, the camera can be quickly paired with a smartphone, tablet or computer. It is also easy to use the Bluetooth connection. By installing a dedicated Image Sync app, the user can upload captured images to a mobile device, view a Live-View image on the device monitor, remotely change various parameters, release the snapshot, and even easily upload captured images to various social media. The user can also send mobile device location data to the camera and record data on captured images. The automatic resize feature*, which automatically reduces the image size before uploading the image to your mobile device, also helps improve camera functionality.
