In the first version of this telephoto zoom lens, built-in stabilization was already available, but the user had to choose between this function and stabilization in the camera body. In version II of the OM System M.Zuiko Digital 100-400 mm f/5-6.3 IS II lens, users can use the Sync IS standard, which results in stabilization with the effectiveness of up to 7 EV steps (the lens stabilization itself is up to 4,5 EV steps). This allows you to use the full potential of both stabilization in the lens and in the camera body.

Image stabilization is extremely important in tele optics, because it is by its very nature more susceptible to the impact of hand vibration on image quality (especially on very long focal lengths). This means that it allows to obtain close-ups corresponding to the focal length for the small image format of 280-1120 mm and 400-1600 mm respectively.
