Liquid level monitoring

The modern liquid level sensor combines the reliability of wired communication with the convenience and mobility of WiFi. The device equipped with an LCD display and a WiFi wireless module allows you to control the filling status of the tank on an ongoing basis, set warning thresholds and receive notifications in the TUYA or Smart Life application.

This solution will work well in homes, gardens and industrial installations – wherever failure-free operation and fast access to data count.

DESCRIPTION OF THE SET

The device consists of:

1. Level sensor, which is mounted in the tank. The sensor communicates with wired with LCD display.
2. Communication cable with a length of 15 meters (4-wire cable)
3. LCD display (wired connects to the sensor) - receiver/transmitter, which serves as a bridge between the sensor and the WIFI router. The display is installed in the room (it cannot be exposed to weather conditions) within the range of the WiFi signal. The display communicates wired with a level sensor.
4. Power supply 5VDC, 1A - to power the LCD display (power supply to the sensor is given from the LCD display)
5. Phone app - TUYA or Smart Life - downloadable, free, from Google Play Store or App Store

We provide detailed guidelines for the correct installation of the liquid level sensor based on the attached illustration:

Correct orientation of the sensor

• The sensor should always be mounted perpendicular to the surface of the liquid
• Incorrect positioning of the sensor at an angle will result in incorrect readings

Location relative to water supply

• The sensor should be installed away from the water inlet
• Installation too close to the water supply can cause a pseudo-echo phenomenon, interfering with correct measurements

Distance from the walls of the tank

• Maintain adequate sensor distance from the side walls of the tank (partitions)
• Installation too close to the wall (partitions) will result in a strong pseudo-echo, which will significantly affect the accuracy of measurements

Sensor assembly and wave distribution

1. Principle of operation of the sensor

The liquid level sensor is mounted on the top of the tank and emits a measuring beam with an angle of ±30°. This beam shall comprise a conical area in which the distance to the surface of the liquid is measured. The correct measurement takes place only if there are no obstacles in the reflection area.

2. Selection of tank

To ensure proper operation of the sensor, the appropriate diameter of the tank (D) in relation to its height (H) should be selected:

• H = 3 m → D > 1,6 m
• H = 2 m → D > 1,1 m

For round and square tanks, the diameter D should be counted as the largest internal dimension of the tank.

3. Proper installation of the sensor

• The sensor should be mounted centrally above the surface of the liquid so that the measuring beam does not encounter obstacles such as pipes, structural elements or tank walls.
• Avoid mounting the sensor over elements that may cause wave reflection interference, e.g. above the pipes, close to the walls or under protruding elements.
• The sensor shall be directed vertically downwards so that the beam covers the entire surface of the liquid in the designated reflection area.

4. The most common assembly errors

• Mounting the sensor over an obstacle (e.g. pipe) causes interference with the measurement.
• Setting the sensor too close to the tank wall leads to incorrect readings by reflections from the wall.
• Installation under protruding elements or at an angle other than vertical prevents proper measurement of the liquid level.
