Advanced AI processor for high-level object recognition
The A1 II is equipped with a dedicated processor using artificial intelligence. It helps to recognize people more accurately by estimating human attitude and supports accurate recognition of other objects: animals, vehicles and insects. This dramatically increases the capabilities of an AF system with real-time recognition and real-time tracking, and also improves the overall performance of the AF system.
Up to 30% better recognition of the human eye
A real-time recognition AF system improves human eye recognition by 30%, and estimating human posture allows you to better identify people who are not facing the camera, wear sunglasses, or have a blind face. It is much better to recognize distant people who occupy only a small part of the frame, as well as obscured objects.
Accurate recognition of a wide range of objects
The camera now recognizes a wider range of photographed and filmed objects, and in the new [Automat. ] automatically selects the appropriate category. Animal recognition works 30% better. The eyes of certain smaller animal species and the eyes, heads and mouths of dogs and cats are identified. Bird recognition improved by 50%.
Adjusting AF tracking sensitivity to changes in object speed
To ensure consistent tracking and accurate focusing, Fast Hybrid AF is equipped with 759 phase-detecting AF fields. The user can now change the tracking response rate, making it easier to photograph birds. In AF-S mode, the system operates even at very low brightness, from –4,0 EV upwards.
Flexible focus area settings
Previous focus area settings — L, M and S — have been supplemented with XL and XS sizes. The XS setting can prevent focusing on foreground objects such as branches. The camera allows you to create your own focus areas of your chosen size and proportions.
Selected shutter release delay
There are different modes for snapshot trigger latency. You can select them from the menu [Op. The start of the start. Setting [Our.allow. On. ] minimizes the delay of triggering the shutter and causes the image to fade (blackout effect) when taking the first photo of the series. Setting [Stab.allow. On. ] stabilizes the shutter release delay, making it easier to trigger the shutter at the desired time. The default setting is [Automat. He's out. ], at which there is no blackout effect at the start of the photos.
Fast continuous shooting at full resolution 50,1 megapixel
The camera enables continuous shooting at a resolution of 50,1 megapixels at speeds up to 30 fps. /s and full focus and exposure tracking. AF/AE parameters are determined up to 120 times per second. Eliminating the blackout effect in the viewfinder makes the image look like it was viewed with an unaided eye when framing and recording shots.
Greater control over the moment of recording the most important moments
The “Pre-capture” feature captures what happened before the shutter was triggered, without compromising resolution even during continuous shooting at 30 fps. /s. There are different write time settings to choose from. The user can also increase the speed of photos for a while. Both of these features reduce the risk of losing the most important moment.
Unusual details thanks to an effective resolution of about 50,1 megapixels
The 50,1-megapixel Exmor RS image sensor and BIONZ XR image processor work with advanced Sony lenses from the numerous G Master family, providing depth, realism and high resolution image reproduction. Thanks to the large number of pixels of the matrix, the impressive 21-megapixel resolution is also taken in APS-C mode or later cropped to APS-C format.
Different size and quality settings for RAW images
The maximum speed of continuous RAW images with compression is 30 fps. /s. To facilitate work, RAW photos with lossless compression, JPEG and HEIF can also be taken in sizes M and S. The number of pixels in such images does not depend on whether full-frame mode or APS-C mode is selected. This allows you to freely switch mode without changing the resolution.
High sensitivity, low noise and wide dynamic range
Thanks to the opinions of professionals, a noise reduction system was created, which, despite its high effectiveness, does not impair the detail of the image. As a result, users can easily take clear photos of indoor sports at medium and high sensitivity. 15-stage dynamic range at low sensitivity ensures smooth, realistic tonal transitions.
Always accurate exposure and coloring
Compared to the α1 body, color exposure and reproduction have been significantly improved. The exposure of photographs and videos is optimized for detected faces and 20% more stable even for faces recorded against light, overexposed due to the sun or positioned sideways to the camera. The white balance is accurately set even on objects in the shade.
5-axis optical image stabilization in a 8,5-degree body in the middle of the frame
Precise image stabilization module, advanced gyroscopic sensors and optimized algorithms detect and compensate for camera shake, delivering breakthrough 8,5-degree efficiency in the center of the image and 7,0-degree at the edges. Thanks to this, you can accurately capture the details in the photos from your hand. Synchronization with compatible lenses allows you to better counteract blurring of the image at larger focal lengths.
RAW image linking modes — less noise and higher resolution
There are two modes of composite RAW images to choose from. In “Photographing Settings with NR” mode, you can take 4 to 32 RAW photos and then combine them into one full-resolution image with very low noise levels even in the range of medium to high sensitivity. Pixel Shift Multi Shooting mode allows you to take 4 or 16 pixel-shifted photos and then combine them into one extremely high-resolution image. In both cases, the connection operation is performed in the Sony Imaging Edge Desktop™ computer program (on PC).
AF system with real-time recognition during filming
The real-time recognition AF system uses advanced, artificial intelligence-based technology to estimate human attitude. With great accuracy, it recognizes and tracks not only the eyes, but also the position of the body and head of people. Compared to the α1, the range of objects recognized with the help of artificial intelligence during shooting and filming has increased. Now it includes, for example, bird recognition in movies. Real-time recognition and tracking of other objects is done by processing colors, patterns and spatial data.
Impressively realistic high-resolution recordings: 8K/4K
To record 4K video (3840 × 2160), you can crop and edit the source 8K footage with very high resolution, obtained by oversampling with 8,6K resolution. 8K image recording is possible in 10-bit XAVC HS 4:2:2 format, optionally with a Full HD proxy file. 4K videos can be recorded in full-frame format, using the XAVC HS, S or S-I codec, or in Super 35mm format, with oversampling at 5,8K resolution and reading all pixels without grouping them together. For exceptional quality, the XAVC S-I format allows you to write with a bitrate of up to 600 Mbps.
Recording with high frame rates: up to 120p
The camera allows you to record 4K movies in up to 120p format. 4K footage can be played at up to 5 times slow motion. Slow and accelerated tempo (S&Q) mode allows you to play a slowed or accelerated image in the camera itself. Full HD footage recorded at 240 fps gives even greater possibilities. /s: it can be played at up to 10 times slow motion (24p), creating impressive shots of the sport, for example. Selecting the desired frame allows intuitive menus.
Increased consistency with S-Log recordings from Cinema Line cameras
The S-Log3 gamma curve extends the range of tonal transitions from shadows to medium gray. The minimum ISO when using the S-Log3 curve is 800. The ISO range can be extended to 200 to 640. Compared to the α1, the reproduction of details has been improved. It is also easier to standardize the image with S-Log3 materials from Sony cinema cameras. The camera allows you to import your own LUT tables for preview purposes.
Stable, high-quality film shots
In addition to the standard stabilization mode, the “Active” mode is available, based on a combination of a precision stabilization module and a gyroscopic sensor. The “Active Dynamic” mode also uses electronic stabilization. It increases efficiency by a further 30%, allowing you to record stable shots even to a running user. The automatic framing feature automatically corrects the composition of the shot by tracking objects and cropping the frame using artificial intelligence. In turn, the framing stabilizer function allows you to maintain a constant position of the object in the frame, even when the user moves with the camera.
Compensation of changes in viewing angle
The “breathing” compensation function limits changes in viewing angle when adjusting focus during filming. Sony Clear Image Zoom technology automatically stabilizes the viewing angle when focusing changes. The metadata saved by this feature can be used in post-production using the latest Catalyst Browse / Catalyst Prepare / Catalyst Prepare Plugin programs.
Functions to help focus
Video recording is facilitated by various functions, such as AF Assistance, temporarily enabling manual focus, outline display or AF transition speed and sensitivity settings. The focus map feature applies depth-of-field visualization to live view. AF system with real-time recognition, real-time tracking and focus area function are now also available when digital zoom or Clear Image Zoom is enabled.
Freedom to adjust the LCD monitor
The monitor with 4-axis adjustment allows you to ensure optimal viewing conditions in horizontal and vertical layout. When the monitor is extended, it can be tilted up to 98° up, 40° down and full 180° to the side. The monitor hinge is unobtrusive, but it is sturdy. The large, 3,2-inch touchscreen display is designed to display a clear image outdoors. It has a resolution of 2,1 million pixels and reproduces a wide range of colors.
Advanced handle properties and easy operation
Greater ergonomics of the handle ensures comfort and stability during long sessions. The VG-C5 vertical mount offered separately has the same properties, facilitating long-term photos in a vertical layout. This holder also provides longer battery life than the previous model. A novelty on the body is the C5 own button.
