O-PEP aerobics is a device for oscillatory bronchopulmonary drainage with positive exhaust pressure to remove secretions from the respiratory tract.

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION:

The device causes air vibrations, which are transferred to the walls of the bronchi. This, combined with the positive exhaust pressure that the device produces, causes defragmentation of the secretion and contributes to its effective coughing.

Controlled positive intrabronchial pressure prevents the pressure in the bronchi from dropping, protecting against the collapse of their walls. This means that the exhaust performed using the device has preserved such pressure reference values that ensure the patency of the bronchi. The residual secretion has a much easier way to overcome from harder-to-reach smaller vesicles to larger and stiffer bronchi.
