Since 23 December 2024, there has been a provision imposing the obligation to install carbon monoxide and smoke sensors in newly built residential buildings. From 1 January 2030, the obligation will also apply to existing buildings, and from June 2026 - hotels and commercial premises.

This is a reaction to the increasing number of carbon monoxide poisonings. Owners and tenants will be obliged to install such devices in corridors, bedrooms and rooms with stoves, fireplaces or gas stoves.

How and where to install a smoke detector?

1. Choose the right place:

– The smoke detector should be mounted on the ceiling – preferably in the central part of the room.

– Avoid installation near ventilation grilles, vents and windows – this can interfere with smoke detection.

2. Correct installation:

– Use the included studs and screws to securely attach the detector.

– Fix it horizontally, in the position according to the instructions – the sensor should have a free air supply on each side.

3. Starting and controlling operation:

– Insert the battery (or connect to power if the device requires it).

– Press the “TEST” button to start the checking procedure and activate the wakefulness.

For safety, it is recommended to weekly signal test and clean the sensor at least once every 6 months – gently, with a dry cloth or vacuum cleaner tip.
