Cast iron cookware is an investment for years to come – but it requires proper care. Here’s how to take care of your pan to serve for decades:
✅ Cleaning after use:

Do not use detergents or dishwasher.
Detergents can remove the natural protective layer (patina), which is built over time by use and lubrication.

Wash only by hand – with hot water.
Use a sponge, soft bristle brush, or wooden spatula to remove food debris. More difficult dirt can be soaked in hot water.

After washing, wipe dry immediately.
Iron should not remain moist – it may start to rust.

To maintain non-stick properties and protect against corrosion:

After each wash, rub the dish with a thin layer of fat.
Use animal fat (lard) or vegetable oil with high smoke point (e.g. rapeseed oil, linseed oil, grape seed oil).

Burning (optional):
Every now and then you can refresh the protective layer by the so-called. “burnout”:
Wipe the entire dish with a thin layer of oil.
Put in the oven preheated to 180 – 200°C for about 1 hour (day up, with paper underneath).
Leave to cool completely in the oven.
