Intelligent four-channel driver for digital addressable tapes WLED - WS281x, Magic Pixel, Neo Pixel. The module can control a tape consisting of up to 800 IC systems.

The controller is based on the ESP32 WiFi module.

Thanks to the output IO ports, the controller allows you to connect bell buttons to control or other devices, e.g. sensors.

LED strip Magic Pixel WLED is a type of addressable LED strip that allows you to individually control each LED to create dynamic lighting effects and animations. Each LED on the tape can display different colors and brightness independently of the others, allowing you to create intricate patterns and light sequences.

Digital LED strip is often used in DIY projects, decorations, accent lighting, as well as in professional lighting installations. With the WLED controller, users can easily manage and program tape using Wi-Fi.

The WLED controller can be configured and controlled by:

  • application on the phone (e.g. WLED Native, SWLED)
  • in the Home Assistant application
  • 4 control outputs: Possibility to connect up to four digital LED strips at the same time. By default, active GPIO16 output, the remaining (GPIO1, GPIO2, GPIO4) can be configured in the application
  • High efficiency: The maximum total output current is 15A, which allows you to operate extensive LED installations
  • Wide power supply range: Support 5V, 12V and 24V DC voltages, which ensures compatibility with most digital tapes
  • Built-in microphone: Allows you to synchronize lighting effects with sound or music (audio-reactive function)
  • Easy setup via WLED app: Control, effects configuration and WiFi integration with intuitive Android/iOS app
  • Supported LED chips: WS2811, WS2812B, WS2815, SK6812, SM16703, FL19038, FW1935, UCS2903B and other popular models of digital LED strips
  • Relay function: Possibility to fully cut off the power supply of LED strips in standby mode for energy savings (configurable in the application, GPIO12 by default)
  • USB-C port for programming: Facilitates firmware updates and advanced configuration via UART1
  • Functional buttons: Short press – on/off, long (1s) – color change, very long (10s) – factory reset and AP1 mode activation
  • Dimensions: 108 × 45 × 18 mm1
  • Working temperature: from -20°C to +45°C1

    .

The controller supports up to 4 digital tapes LED simultaneously.

Outputs:

  • GPIO16 (default)
  • GPIO4, GPIO2, GPIO1 (activated after configuration)

Connection diagrams:

  • One tape: Connect to GPIO16.
  • Two tapes: Connect to GPIO16 and GPIO4.
  • Three tapes: Connect to GPIO16, GPIO4 and GPIO2.
  • Four tapes: Connect to GPIO16, GPIO4, GPIO2 and GPIO1.

ATTENTION! The controls are not independent.

Relay Configuration (Relay Configuration)

The relay allows you to completely cut off the power supply of the LED strip when it is turned off, which significantly reduces the power consumption in standby mode.

Without relay: The LED strip draws electricity even when it is turned off – high power consumption at rest.

With relay: When the LED strip is turned off, the relay completely cuts off the power supply – low power consumption in standby mode.

Configuration in the WLED application:

  1. Go to “Config” → “LED Preferences”.
  2. Set “Relay GPIO” to 12.
  3. Optionally, uncheck “Invert”.
  4. Save the settings.

Benefit: Energy saving and extending the life of LED installations

The ESP32 WLED controller with built-in microphone is the perfect solution for those looking to create dynamic and interactive lighting at home, at events, or in art projects. With advanced technology and a wide range of configuration options, you can achieve amazing lighting effects tailored to your individual needs.

  1. Purpose: Allows you to synchronize lighting effects with music or ambient sound (audio-reactive mode).
  2. First configuration after reset:

    Go to “Config” → “Usermods”.

Select "Digitalmic" and enter the following parameters:

    Microphone type: Generic I2S

    12S SD pin: 26

    12S WS pin: 5

    12S SCK pin: 21

Save settings, then restart the driver.

  3. Activation: After restarting, go to “Info” and start the “Audio Reactive” function.

WLED is an open-source software that runs on ESP32 microcontrollers. This means that all services are hosted locally on your WLED device. Therefore, you can only control your lights within your local network (at home).

If you need remote access to the WLED driver from anywhere in the world, there are several ways you can do this, some require additional hardware:

  1. Port Forwarding - To share a WLED driver on the internet, create a port forwarding rule for the local IP address of your ESP and port (e.g. 12345) in the router configuration. If your public IP address changes frequently, use Dynamic DNS to ensure that the WLED driver is always available. Don’t know what these terms mean or how to do it? Google the phrase “[your router model] port forwarding”!
  2. Home Assistant - connect the driver to the Home Assistant software. Make sure your HA installation has access from outside your local network.
  3. Amazon Echo devices - connect the WLED driver to the Alexa speaker.
  4. Philips HUE - if you have a Philips Hue bridge, synchronize the WLED driver with it.

The controller is equipped with a GPIO33 interface, which allows you to connect buttons or switches.

Example configuration to button (bell):

  • Button 0 (GPIO33):

    Short press: On/Off.

Long press (1 second): Color change.

Long press (10 seconds): Switch to Wi-Fi AP ("WLED-AP") mode.

  • Button 1 (GPIO33):

    Short press: Brightness adjustment.

Double click: Change the color in music mode.

    Long press: Brightness adjustment.
