Eurofighter Typhoon (English) The Typhoon Eurofighter, also the EF-2000) is a twin-engine multirole fighter built in a duck system by a consortium of three European aviation manufacturers – Alenia Aeronautica, BAE Systems and EADS – cooperating within the Eurofighter Jagdflugzeug GmbH holding founded in 1983. The aircraft construction and equipment project is managed by the NATO Eurofighter and Tornado Management Agency (NETMA)[5][6]. The design of the aircraft is similar to the generation 4,5 fighters developed in the same period – the French Dassault Rafale and the Swedish Saab JAS 39 Gripen. After initial delays, production of Eurofighter began under three separate contracts (tranches), each of which concerns an aircraft with increasing combat capabilities. In 2008, the Eurofighter Typhoon was in service with the British RAF, the German Luftwaffe, the Spanish Ejército del Aire, the Italian Aeronautica Militare and the Austrian Air Force. In addition, Saudi Arabia has signed a contract worth about EUR 6,4 billion for the supply of 72 machines of this type. According to a 2011 report by the National Audit Office, the total cost of the R&D and fleet production program of 160 aircraft is £23 billion.Therefore, the actual cost of each of the 107 British machines was 215 million pounds (350 million US dollars)[8],which means that the unit cost of one aircraft is higher than the same calculated cost of the American F-22 Raptor aircraft,which, produced in 185 copies, cost the American taxpayer $339 million apiece.
