History:

The North American B-25J Mitchell was one of the last and most widely produced variants of the American twin-engine medium bomber from the Second World War. The B-25 family aircraft were used on many fronts, where they gained recognition thanks to their solid construction, versatility and the ability to perform a variety of combat tasks. The B-25J version, which began production in late 1943, was a development of earlier varieties and was offered both with a glass bombardier stand and with a full, heavily armed front part of the fuselage, intended for direct attacks on enemy targets.

The Solid Nose variant was distinguished by an unglazed hull nose, in which eight fixed large-caliber Browning machine guns caliber 12,7 mm were placed. Additional rifles mounted on the sides of the front part of the fuselage provided even more firepower during attacks at low altitude. The aircraft was powered by two fourteen-cylinder Wright R-2600 Twin Cyclone star engines, ensuring adequate performance during bombing and assault missions. The B-25J also retained the ability to carry bombs, allowing it to combine on-board weapons fire with bombardment of designated targets.

The B-25J full-nose aircraft performed particularly well in the Pacific, where they were used to combat Japanese ships, transport barges, airports and military positions. Pilots carried out rapid attacks at low altitude, using concentrated machine gun fire to incapacitate air defenses and destroy ground targets. This tactic has proven effective during fighting in New Guinea, the Philippines and other areas of the Pacific. Thanks to the combination of high firepower, durability and the ability to carry bombs, the B-25J Solid Nose has become one of the most characteristic American attack aircraft of the end of World War II.
