Fer­ro­flu­id is a liquid under normal conditions. It consists of microscopic molecules of ferromagnetic suspended in a carrier liquid. Under the influence of magnetic field suspended in the ferrofluid, ferromagnetic particles clump together, creating complex structures, which we can observe in the form of characteristic cones.

Ferrofluid is used for experiments and demonstrations of magnetic phenomena. It is part of toys and scientific gadgets. However, this is not the only use of ferrofluid. It is also used in industry, e.g. in the construction of speakers or to improve the cooling of electric motors.

You can watch the fascinating transformations of ferrofluid by applying a strong magnet to the bottle. You will see how the liquid changes shape, taking the image of a tuned hedgehog and following the magnet.
