Jelcz 272 MEX – Polish city bus, produced in 1963-1977 in Jelcz (now Jelcz-Laskowice). This model was a licensed variant of the Czechoslovak bus Škoda 706 RTO. Because of its appearance, it was commonly called “cucumber”. In 1962, Jelczańskie Zakłady Samochodowe built a prototype of the Jelcz 272 MEX city bus, based on Jelcz 043 (intercity bus). The interior is designed to carry 81 passengers (28 of whom are seats). The passenger space was finished with varnished fiberboard, the floor was pine boards covered with rubber. Currently, only a few copies of the iconic bus have been preserved – “cucumber”, the ride with it is an incredible attraction today.
