Short story:

Vickers Wellington was a twin-engine, medium-sized bomber designed in the mid-30s. in Brooklands, Weybridge, by Vickers-Armstrongs chief designer R.K. Pierson. It was widely used in the first two years of World War II before being replaced as a bomber by much larger four-engine structures such as the Avro Lancaster. The first main production variant was Mk IC. Another significant variant was the Mk III, equipped with a Bristol Hercules III or XI engine with 1375 hp (1205 kW) and a four-gun rear turret instead of a two-gun. In total, 1519 Mk IIIs were built, which by 1941 had become pillars of the bomber command.
