PZL.37 Łoś – polish construction and production, a medium twin-engine bomber built in a low-wing system with an all-metal structure with a retractable landing gear in flight.
The preliminary draft was submitted to the Aviation Department of the Ministry of Aviation. July 1934. The aircraft was designed by: Eng. Jerzy Dąbrowski (chief designer), Piotr Kubicki (deputy), Franciszek Misztal (construction of the lobe). In October of the same year, an order for a prototype was obtained, in April 1935 a model of the aircraft was accepted. The first prototype was flown on 13 December 1936 by the experimental pilot of PZL Jerzy Widawski.
PZL.37B. : Production of the first B series models began in autumn 1938. They were modelled on the P.37/II prototype with improvements resulting from operational experience. The main difference between versions A and B were more powerful engines and better design. The new aircraft use Bristol Pegasus XX engines (918 hp) or the same engines built under the in Poland as PZL Pegasus XX.
Series B aircraft received great recognition from bomber aviation units, which began operating this aircraft from spring 1939.
In March 1939, as commander of the air force, there was a change – General Władysław Kalkus was appointed in place of General Rayski. As a result of the change in the concept of aviation use, it was decided to direct the production effort towards fighter aircraft. This resulted in a reduction of the order from 180 to 108 machines of the B series. PZL, citing the launch of production of assemblies for 130 Elk (124 according to AJ-Press ML 100), led to an increase in the order to such a number of machines.
