SIGMA 35mm F1.4 DG DN | Art is a newly designed lens designed to work with mirrorless cameras. The lens is the successor to the well-known 35mm Art lens, through evolution new features and technologies have led it to work perfectly with mirrorless cameras. Compact design, functionality, sharpness and visuals of the image and one of the fastest focusing systems are its main features. The F1.4 aperture is not without significance, allowing you to shoot with shallow depth of field, additionally supporting photographers in dark churches during the reportages.
The 35mm focal length is one of the most widely used focal lengths by photographers around the world. This is a classic reporter lens, to take anytime, anywhere. Despite its large aperture, it is compact and can fit in any bag or photo backpack.
A key aspect in the design of the 35mm F1.4 DG DN | Art lens was the sophisticated optical parameters that are common to all lenses in the Art line. The lens design consists of 15 elements in 11 groups. By using two low dispersion lenses (SLD),lenses with extremely low dispersion (ELD), as well as one FLD lens with characteristics similar to fluorite, and two aspherical lenses, this advanced design uses state-of-the-art SIGMA optical design technology, minimizing all types of aberrations, including longitudinal aberration, which cannot be corrected on the camera.
Despite the very large aperture of F1.4, this lens corrects the coma to a very good extent, also with the aperture as open as possible, preventing bright points of light from flares near the edge of the frame, which is extremely desirable especially by people photographing the night starry sky.
Thanks to the 11-leaf circular aperture, the lens provides a smooth, round bokeh effect, so that blurred areas do not distract from the photographed object, making the lens also great for m.in. for portraits. Thanks to advanced anti-reflective coating technology and countless simulations carried out both in a computer program and in real conditions, the lens also performs very well when shooting against light, preventing the formation of scars while maintaining high contrast.
The focusing system in the SIGMA 35mm F1.4 DG DN | Art lens is based on a stepper motor, controlling one group of lenses consisting of only one, lightweight element, which made the autofocus in this lens extremely fast and quiet, both in single mode and when tracking an object. Manual sharpening is very smooth and precise, while providing adequate resistance for filmmakers. Of course, there is an AF/MF switch on the housing.
On the housing SIGMA 35mm F1.4 DG DN |Art there is an aperture ring that allows you to control the aperture using a lens or using a camera (when setting the ring to Auto mode). The aperture lock switch on the lens body allows you to lock the aperture ring in automatic mode to secure an accidental shift when shooting. . A big plus for filmmakers will also be the "de-click" switch, which allows smooth adjustment of the aperture. On the housing you will also find a focus mode switch and an AFL button, with which you can adjust the change of any function you choose.
The set also includes a sunshade, which helps to reduce glare and provides extra protection for the lens in case of a drop. The cover features a locking mechanism that keeps it securely on the lens, while the rubberized handle allows for easy insertion and removal.
The SIGMA 35mm F1.4 DG DN | Art housing is characterized by very high durability, which will withstand long-term professional use. The dust and splash resistant design ensures that buttons and connections between components are sealed, and there is a rubber seal around the attachment. The front lens is also coated with a waterproof and oil-resistant coating, making the lens suitable for even the most demanding circumstances.
Complementing the image quality is an 11-leaf, rounded aperture thanks to which we get a pleasant image plasticity that generates smooth gradation and minimizes the formation of streaks.
The front lens of the lens is coated with hydrophobic layers, ensuring easy cleaning, water repelling.
The rings work with a pleasantly perceptible resistance, offer a smooth operation mode and Clik, the aperture ring can be locked preventing accidental repositioning.
The entire production process, from casting molds to the smallest parts, takes place in Japan, the factory is located at the foot of Mount Aizu. Sigma is one of the last manufacturers whose products are exclusively made in Japan. Production in one place, ensures high quality control of photographic and film lenses and cameras produced there.
