PZL P.24 – Polish fighter designed by engineer Vsevolod Jakimiuk from the family of fighters with a Polish wing, developed and produced at the State Aviation Works. The PZL P.24 was an export-oriented development of the PZL P.11 aircraft, adapted to Gnome-Rhone engines, which were no longer used in Poland . It was flown in May 1933 by PZL test pilot Bolesław Orliński. In 1934, Bolesław Orliński set a speed record of 416 km/h in it for a radial-engined fighter aircraft. That same year, the third prototype, the P.24/III, designated the Super P-24bis, was exhibited at the Paris Air Show, where it was highly praised and generated considerable interest. The aircraft was also demonstrated to military missions of numerous countries. In the following years, new versions B, C, E with different armament were developed, as well as versions F and G with a more powerful engine. The aircraft was purchased by countries such as Türkiye (versions A and C), Bulgaria (B), Greece (F and G) and Romania (E). In addition, Romania and Türkiye have acquired a license to produce the P.24. In Turkey, the TFK Kayseri plant produced a total of 40 PZL P.24 aircraft, in P.24A and P.24C versions. Some of these aircraft were then rebuilt into the PZL P.24G version. One of these planes is located in the Turkish Aviation Museum (Tur. Havacilik Müzesi) in the town of Yesilköy near Istanbul. In Romania, 25 aircraft of the PZL P.24E version were produced at the IAR plant. The licensed PZL P.24E became the basis for the development of the original Romanian design of the IAR-80 fighter. The new fighter was built in a low-wing configuration, while the fuselage with all internal equipment and the engine were retained from the PZL P.24E. In 1937, the PZL P.24H version was developed, possibly for the Polish Air Force. The aircraft served in the air forces of Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria and Greece. The Greek Air Force used it effectively and with high praise in the fights against the Italian aggressor in 1940–1941, despite the ratio of fighter aircraft forces of the sides being 36:179.
