The Lockheed F-22 Raptor is an American air superiority fighter. Made in stealth technology, it was designed mainly to fight the USSR air force in the event of a violation of US airspace, but it has weapons that allow attacking ground targets, conducting electronic warfare and electronic listening. During the long development process, the aircraft was designated YF-22, then for a three-year period preceding the entry into service of the United States Air Force F/A-22, and finally adopted the name F-22A. The main manufacturer is Lockheed Martin, responsible for the construction of the airframe, armament and final assembly of the aircraft. Boeing Integrated Defense Systems supplies wings, rear fuselage and avionics.

Due to the ban imposed by federal law, it is currently not possible to export Raptor. Even if it existed, few allied countries would be able to meet the requirements and costs of its obsługi.Większość current buyers of fighters produced by the United States are interested in purchasing earlier constructions, for example, F-15 or F-16, or are waiting for the implementation into production of F-35, which uses many technological solutions present in the Raptor.

Japan has officially expressed interest in purchasing the F-22. The Director of the Asia Department at the U.S. National Security Council confirmed that talks are ongoing on sales, but despite pressure from Congress, the White House refused to sell these machines to Japan, which became the direct reason for Japan’s own program to build its fifth generation aircraft. Production of the F-22 ended in 2011 and will likely never resume.

Combat use

The first combat use of weapons by the F-22 took place on 23 September 2014. At that time, an attack was carried out on the targets of the so-called Islamic State in Syria using weapons guided by the GPS system.
