With its dust and splash resistant* design and water-repellent and oil-resistant coating on the front of the lens, it ensures reliability and ease of maintenance even when shooting in the rain, on the beach or in dusty environments.

*The design is designed to be dust and splash resistant, but it is not waterproof. Be careful not to allow the lens to come into contact with plenty of water. Water inside the lens can cause serious damage and even prevent it from being repaired.

Made in Japan, Aizu

All of our lenses and cameras are designed, manufactured and assembled at our only factory in Aizu, Japan. This on-premises production model is already extremely rare in today’s industry, where most imaging companies have opted to outsource to other countries to reduce costs. However, SIGMA believes that maintaining the entire production and assembly process in Aizu is essential for creating innovative, carefully thought-out and impeccably constructed products that meet the high standards required by professional photographers and filmmakers around the world.

Sigma chose Aizu as its main production base in the early 70s. Located at the foot of Mount Bandai in Fukushima Prefecture, about a four-hour drive north of Tokyo, Aizu has plenty of very clean water from mountain streams, which is essential for grinding and polishing lenses. The founder of SIGMA, Mr. Michihiro Yamaki, also attracted this area because of the employees who are famous for their craftsmanship, work ethic and attention to detail. Mr. Yamaki’s son, Kazuto Yamaki, now owner and CEO of SIGMA Corporation, maintains production in Japan with the same unwavering commitment.

Today, Sigma’s factory has an area of over 50 000 square feet and is equipped with the most advanced optical element manufacturing technologies.
