INVITAL Pond Filter Bacto-balls contain millions of beneficial bacteria in each ball. The water flowing next to them gradually releases these bacteria and begins the process of removing waste substances.

What exactly are Bacto balls?

Bacto-balls are biodegradable gel balls with a high concentration of "heterotrophic" bacteria. Water in the pond passes through the balls on the principle of diffusion, allowing bacteria to mineralize and thus transform waste products.

As a by-product, enzymes necessary for nitrifying bacteria are produced, which convert harmful ammonia (NH3) and nitrite (NO2) into nitrate (NO3). Since bacteria are isolated in a stabilized form in gel balls, they only work if there are actually impurities in the pond water. Thanks to this, they act as emergency pond cleaners.

Hint: It is best to place Bacto-balls in the filter mesh directly in the biological filter. However, Bacto balls will also perform their job optimally when placed between mats or other biological filter materials, ensuring crystal clear water in your pond. Filter meshes can be found in our offer.

Application and other information

• To start filtration for a pond with a capacity of 20 000 liters, you can insert the entire package of 1000 ml directly into the filtration.
• If the pond is dirty, you can dose 100 ml per 4000 liters directly into the pond during the year, preferably near the pump.
• After use, turn off the UV-C lamp for 24 hours. Use only at water temperatures above 10 °C.
