Our IR infrared controller is a simple way to conveniently manage your home electronics. It allows you to transfer the functions of your traditional remote controls to the Tuya / Smart Life app, so you can operate compatible devices directly from your phone—no more searching for the right remote.
The SB1515 allows you to control TVs, air conditioners, set-top boxes, DVD players, and audio equipment that use standard infrared signals. The 360° IR emission allows the controller to send commands in all directions, meaning one unit can operate multiple devices in the same room.
In the app, you can select a remote from the extensive brand database or use the DIY button learning function to save commands from your original remote. Integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant also enables voice control for supported functions.
The controller connects directly to your router via 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi — no additional hub is required. It supports 38 kHz IR infrared; compatibility and the range of available functions depend on the model of the device being controlled. Place it in a location where the signal can reach the device receivers without obstruction.

Dimensions and installation
The controller measures 67 × 67 × 19 mm and has a black housing with rounded corners. You can set it on a shelf, dresser or TV cabinet — without drilling or interfering with the electrical system.
The device requires constant power supply 5 V DC / 1 A. The power cable has a length of about 50 cm, therefore, when choosing a place, take into account access to the power source.
Set the controller in the same room as the controlled equipment, within Wi-Fi range. Infrared emission 360° allows sending commands in different directions, but the signal must reach the receivers of the devices. Do not hide the controller in a locked cabinet or cover it with objects.
Quick Match – quick adjustment of the remote control
The Quick Match function makes it easy to select a remote control from the application database. Once you have selected the type of hardware and brand, start matching by sending a test command from your phone. The controller must be in the place from which the IR signal reaches the controlled device.
If you need to check the controls more carefully, select Manual Mode in the upper right corner. A remote control panel will open where you can test several functions, e.g. Turn on, adjust volume or change channels. The "Another One" option allows you to move to subsequent sets of codes until you find the right one.
The three bars menu in the upper right corner of opens the list of available remote controls. You can select a specific set or search for it by Remote ID.
Before saving the remote, check at least three buttons – the correct response to turning on does not mean that the other functions will also work.
Learn Match — Learning Remote Commands
The Learn Match function allows you to use your original IR remote to map controls in the app. Point the remote toward the controller from a distance of about 3 cm and follow the on-screen instructions.
To teach the controller a specific command, hold down the corresponding button on your phone screen and then briefly press the matching button on your original remote. You can use this to add missing functions, such as mute, input source selection, or playback controls.
After saving a command, check the device's reaction. Then select "Continue To Learn" to keep adding buttons, or "Learn End" to finish.
A working 38 kHz IR infrared remote is required for the learning process. The ability to save commands depends on their compatibility with the controller.
DIY Function — Adding Your Own Remote
The DIY function allows you to create a custom remote in the app by saving commands from your 38 kHz IR remote. You can use this to control various devices, including those that were not found in the app's database.
First, choose whether your original remote is "With Screen" or "Without Screen." For the "Without Screen" version, the app displays a panel of buttons to learn. In the "With Screen" variant, it allows you to prepare settings and commands you wish to save.
During the learning process, point the original remote toward the controller from a distance of about 3 cm. Follow the app's prompts to send the commands, then test them on your equipment.
You can add devices like TVs, audio equipment, lighting, or blinds, provided they use compatible 38 kHz IR infrared commands. Radio remotes (e.g., 433 MHz) are not supported. Note that the 38 kHz frequency alone does not guarantee that every command can be copied.
The screenshots show an example of air conditioner configuration — the DIY function is also used for adding other compatible devices.
Scenes and automations – control tailored to your day
Devices added to the IR controller can be used in scenes and automations of Tuya Smart / Smart Life applications. This allows you to send selected commands at a set time, after fulfilling a condition or with one tap in the Tap-to-Run scene.
For example, you can set the to turn on the air conditioner after exceeding the temperature indicated by a separate sensor, sending the command to turn off the TV in the evening or running several devices in one scene. Available actions depend on the function of the added remote control and controlled equipment.
IR-controlled devices can perform actions, but cannot be a scene trigger. The controller sends commands unidirectionally — it does not read the hardware status or confirm the command execution. Automation can run e.g. schedule or change the reading of another compatible sensor.
How to add the controller to the app?
The controller connects to Tuya Smart or Smart Life via 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. You do not need a hub to add it.
- Connect the controller to a 5V DC / 1A power source and connect your phone to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
- Put the controller into pairing mode using the reset button — the indicator light should flash rapidly.
- Open the app, tap the "+" in the top right corner, and select "Add Device."
- Wait for the app to detect the controller as "Smart IR" and follow the on-screen prompts. If asked for network details, enter your Wi-Fi password.
- Once added, you can give the controller a custom name and assign it to a room. Confirm by tapping "Done."
After configuration is complete, open the controller in the app and add the remotes for the devices you want to control using the remote database or the learning function.
