When to test the heart rate of an unborn baby?

We suggest that pregnant women examine the fetal heart rate:

• within 30 minutes after waking up
• within 60 minutes after a meal
• about 30 minutes before falling asleep

At other times, activities that take place in the mother’s body (such as e.g. digestion of food) require more oxygen, which reduces the supply of oxygen to the fetus. This can cause an incorrect test result, such as fetal hypoxia.

Monitoring the FHR in the above-mentioned periods gives the best picture of the fetal health.

The correct FHR value is 120-160 beats/min.

How to conduct the study?

1. From 16 - 24 weeks of gestation, the position of the fetal heart is usually below the navel and both sides of the abdominal line
2. From 25 - 32 weeks the position of the fetus will change, the heart is usually below or on the navel line
3. From 32 week, the heart rate should be checked above and below the navel on both sides of the abdomen
