Lowering the pH of water and carbonate hardness
A pond preparation designed to reduce the pH value and carbonate hardness (KH) of water. It contains a mixture of mineral acids. 100 ml of the preparation reduces the carbonate hardness of water by about 3 °d in 1000 l of water (100 ml = 3000 l × °d).
The preparation is dosed after dilution with water in the ratio of 1:20. The operation of lowering the pH or carbonate hardness is performed gradually and carefully, adding portions of the solution and measuring the pH and carbonate hardness with the help of pH and GH-KH Aquatests from ZOOLEK. In the first stage of action, the preparation reduces carbonate hardness (KH) and until it is completely removed, the pH of the water decreases slowly. In most cases, complete removal of carbonate hardness is undesirable. At KH=0 further pH changes occur rapidly, so it is recommended to dose the agent with care and frequent pH control. When used in fish tanks, special care should be taken to prevent sudden changes in pH and carbonate hardness.
