This wiring harness provides lighting for your trailer or bike rack, including:

The wiring harness kit includes a detailed installation diagram. The electrical wires are pre-connected to the electrical socket. Each towbar of the manufacturer STEINHOF has an EU approval. Thanks to this, it can be used throughout the European Union without risk in the event of a diagnostic or police inspection. The nameplate is placed on the base of the hook electrical socket or on the hook beam.
EU approval proves the high quality of the product. To achieve it, the towbar must undergo a special test which consists in checking their strength at 2 million cycles under a given load. It aims to provide consistent, high and repeatable quality for series production.
STEINHOF as one of the few manufacturers of tow hooks in Europe has EU approvals for all references produced by the factory.
Adapter/adapter (1 pc. ) from 7 to 13 PIN
The adapter allows you to connect the 13 PIN plug of the trailer or trunk to the 7 PIN socket that the car is equipped with.
Thanks to the high maximum vertical pressure on the ball , STEINHOF tow hooks are perfect for mounting bicycle racks. High maximum pulls of hooks fulfill their role very well when towing large, heavy trailers.
STEINHOF tow hooks are made of specially selected raw materials, have appropriate approvals that guarantee their durability and confirmation that only the highest quality towbar goes to the customer.
STEINHOF guarantees that hooks are previously subjected to about 50 hours of specialized fatigue tests carried out in an internal laboratory before they go on sale on the market. The test consists in checking their strength at 2 million cycles under a given load, it is designed to provide consistent, high and repeatable quality for serial production. In addition, towing hooks undergo regular testing for compliance with the requirements of UNECE Regulation No 55. The result of these tests is obtaining EU approval certificates No. E20 and e20 obtained from the Automotive Industry Institute in Warsaw.
The quality of the products is additionally confirmed by the certificate No. e4 issued by the RDW Certification Institute based in the Netherlands.

1. Can I use the towbar immediately after installation in the car?
After installation, go to the Vehicle Inspection Station to perform a technical examination of the correctness of the installation of the towing hook. From that moment on, it can be used. Then, in order to complete the formalities, within 30 days of the technical examination, an appropriate entry should be obtained from the Communication Department (in the registration certificate and vehicle card if the vehicle has it).
2. Can any car tow a trailer?
Whether a vehicle can tow a trailer is specified in the vehicle approval. This is confirmed by the entry in box O.1 or O2 of the registration certificate. The figures in it indicate that the vehicle is approved for towing a trailer and what permissible gross vehicle weight it may have. If the car does not have the ability to tow trailers, it does not always mean that it cannot have a hook. Some versions of cars may have a hook only for mounting on it, for example, a bicycle rack
3. Is it necessary to install an electrical wiring harness for a towbar?
Yes. The electrical harness included with the towbar is designed to provide illumination in your trailer or bike rack. Its proper functioning is tested at the Vehicle Inspection Station. There are bundles with an electronic module or so-called. simple beams, without a module, which are sufficient in some car models. In our offers, the sets contain the right beam for the proper operation of lighting.
4. Bundle 7 or 13 PIN. Which one to choose?
In our listings, tow hook kits include a 7 or 13 PIN beam. The 7 PIN beam provides basic lighting for the trailer, i.e. positional, stop, fog, turn signals. The 13 PIN beam additionally ensures the operation of the reversing light in the trailer. We recommend choosing a 13 PIN beam if your car will be towing a trailer with a load capacity of more than 750 kg (with overrun brake) or for transporting a bicycle rack. In this case, the Road Traffic Law requires the operation of a reversing lamp in a trailer registered for the first time since 1 August 2016. Using the transition socket, you can change the vehicle socket from 7 PIN to 13 PIN and vice versa, however, if the vehicle is equipped with a 7 PIN socket, the use of a 13 PIN transition socket will not cause the trailer reversing light to work.
5. Universal or dedicated. Which one to choose?
Universal harness from Quasar Electronics or TESAT can be installed in a modern car without any worries. During installation, a small interference with the electrical system is required – we solder into the appropriate wires (recommended) or use quick couplers from the set. The advantage of the universal set is that we can mount it in various car models and a low purchase price.
Dedicated bundles are equipped with connection connectors with sockets of the vehicle electrical system, matched wires based on the technological formula of the original part. The disadvantage of this solution is the high purchase price and often the need to code the vehicle system due to the presence of a dedicated beam (additional cost).
6. Principle of operation and method of mounting a universal beam with a module (description abbreviated on the basis of the product Quasar Electronics model WH1R-G13-8).
Installation is simple and should not be difficult. To be sure, however, we recommend that the beam be mounted by a person with experience in such works. The principle of operation of the module is that it detects voltage in the cable through the "signal" cable, e.g. When the direction indicator is switched on in the car and then another cable running from the module to the electrical socket of the beam directs the voltage to the direction indicator light of the trailer. The module somehow copies the operation of the vehicle lights by turning on the twin trailer lights. The module must of course be powered by a constant plus. In order to properly connect the beam in the car, you need to connect the signal wires from the vehicle installation running to the module, i.e. direction indicators, lamps: positional, braking, fog (and reversing in the case of 13PIN beam). Then connect the wires running from the module to the electrical socket (according to the scheme). Finally, you need to connect the module to the power supply (tkz "fixed plus", preferably to a battery or other reliable voltage source). The lighting test should be performed at full load of the electrical socket, e.g. after connecting the trailer. Testing with a probe/meter or a less advanced tester often gives incorrect readings despite a properly connected installation.
7. What effect does the installation of a towbar in a car have on the operation of the reversing sensors?
The electrical harness included with the towbar is designed to provide illumination in the trailer or trunk and does not interfere with the operation of the car's reversing sensors. In such cases, the reversing sensors shall indicate the obstacle when the reverse gear is switched on when the vehicle is towing a trailer. The signal can be switched off with a button that turns off the sensors or simply ignored the signal while reversing the vehicle with caution. Some universal beams with the module have the function of turning off the reversing sensors. However, due to the complexity of such a solution, we advise against their installation. In many more modern cars, it is not possible to correctly disconnect the reversing sensors by a universal module. The vehicle control system reports errors after interfering with the parking assistance system. In very rare cases, reversing sensors read the presence of a hook ball (some of the latest Citroen, Peugeot models) as an obstacle. In this case, we recommend the installation of hooks with detachable balls.
8. Is the towbar approved?
All towing hooks from our offer have EU approval, which is necessary to obtain a technical test at the Vehicle Inspection Station. The possession of approval by the hook is evidenced by an approval plate (sticker) placed on the basis of an electrical socket or a hook beam. No approval document is required for the technical examination and it is sufficient to confirm it on the data plate.
9. Do I need to disassemble the hook ball when it is not in use?
The hook ball must be disassembled when it covers the license plate or car lighting. In other cases, no dismantling of the hook ball is required.
10. Who can install the towbar?
Actually, everyone. You can install the kit yourself or e.g. in the car service. The condition for obtaining a positive technical test is the correct installation of the towbar and electrical harness and it is not important who made it. No documents related to the assembly service are required.
11. What hook to choose for transporting a bicycle rack?
Any towbar that is approved is perfect for this task. It does not matter if the hook is unscrewed or removed.
12. Do I need to trim the bumper to mount the towbar?
Information about the need to undercut the bumper can be found in the technical data section of the offer. Included with the towbar is an installation manual with a template or exact dimensions of the bumper undercut. In most cases, undercutting, if necessary, is located in the lower, invisible part of the bumper, in a place factory prepared for this.
13. Are there assembly instructions included?
Yes. Instructions and installation diagrams are included with the towbar and electrical harness. We recommend that you read them carefully before making an installation.
